I wish I was Farnham.

Yeah... I do. Though, even HIS rise to fame wasn't a given... and that man is gifted more than anyone else I've ever seen. His voice should be gilded and put on display at the National Museum. Every time I've seen him on DVD or back in the day on Hey Hey or something, he's been better than anyone else I've ever heard... right? I mean who agrees with me here? The thing that drives me crazy though is The Little River Band saga. I understand that Beeb Birtles and Graeham (that's not a misprint... the dude changed the spelling for Feng Shui reasons... I shit you not...) Goble were kinda spoilt with Glenn Shorrock as their 'lead' singer, but with him gone and Farnham stepping in on lead singing duties... surely you'd step back a little and say... 'woah, hold on a second... I think this chappy is a little bit special'? From what I can gather, Farnham's tenure with LRB produced 3 albums... all of mediocre success. Mediocre in the scheme of things of course... if I had the success of any one of those albums... I'd be a happy boy. Also, Beeb wasn't thrilled with the harder 'edge' the band's sound was taking and also he wasn't a fan of... get this... Farnsy's stage performance... What? Whatever... I remember watching those TV specials as a kid thinking there was no one cooler onstage than Farnham. The way he'd banter with the audience in between songs... so charismatically; the way he'd toss that microphone stand in the air with blatant disregard for the welfare of said stand... Awesome. In 2005 I got to tour with John Farnham in 'Grease: The Arena Spectacular'. In fact, it was the reason I signed on...

Manager

Court, do you want to play one of the T-birds in a national tour of Grease and dance your arse off to thousands of people or contend on the new season of Dancing With The Stars and... dance your arse off to millions of people'?

Courtney

I don't really want to do either... I don't really like to dance... I'm kinda fat. Fat dudes don't like dancing very much... could I just skip that crap and go straight to recording an album and maybe capitalise on my success on Australian Idol while it lasts?

Manager

John Farnham has signed on to tour the country in the show... effectively you'll be touring the country with John Farnham, while earning a squid or two in the process... ?

Courtney

I love dancing.

On my end I'd be happy to say that John and I bonded over that tour... whether that's true for him or not, I can't say. I remember the first time we met was at the sitzprobe (where the band and the singers join for the first time) and he came up to me, shook my hand and said 'G'day Courtney, I was told you were on Australian Idol, I don't watch the show myself... I think ***** ******* is a *****, but I was told you did very well....' well I knew then and there that we were going to get along swimmingly.

Throughout the tour when he'd go out and do his big number in the middle of the show, I'd always leave my dressing room to watch the magic of him commanding the audience... I still shake my head to the skill.

When he'd finish he'd come walking backstage and always ask me 'Was it good tonight Courtney?' To which I'd be honest with him... either... 'It was amazing tonight John' or 'It wasn't as good as Brisbane'...

I won't give all of my great Farnham moments away in my blog... I'll keep some for campfire purposes... if you're hanging out with me and want to know a few... remind me. there's a couple of corkers.

This was my little gush about Farnham and how if he just found the right songs and gave us a little bit more of the magic we know he's capable of... he'd be right back on top of where he should be again.

I miss the magic.

Love Court.
