It's been 9 1/2 years since I played the civic centre in Esperance. Last time it was for the change of century news years celebrations. After an exceedingly long drive from Perth to Esperance (9 hours) we pulled into the big E on a particularly gusty winters night... It would have blown Berts toupé off. It seems they haven't changed a thing since we left. Kane (our sound guy) has a sister who lives down here and catered for a post road trip feed. Boy does that girl know how to put on a spread. Clay, Kieran and Jase flew down just before midday today and it didn't take them long to find the nearest pub with a surprisingly attractive skimpy. Man we love the country. We all downed a couple of pints of the magical golden juice and went to set up at the oddly familiar civic centre. I found a nice tall scaffold backstage that I thought would make an awesome set piece. So me and Bolg took to adorning it with as many lights as Kane had spare; and to top it off we added the new whizbang neon sign. I'm currently writing this back in my room from my iPhone getting ready to remind Esperance why they haven't invited us back for 9 1/2 years. I'd have to say this is the best part of the trip. We are just about to do what we do best... 5 great mates that happen to be in a band together and a severe lack of consideration for the lengthy haul back home tomorrow. Hey Esperance, bend over.
