Bunker pt 2: The Screeded Square.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:38

So I fooled a few people with my little bunker story on April fools... sorry... but crikey, didn't we have fun along the way? Back to the yard for a brief momo. Now that Jane is on her school holidays, (I like to write it that way, it sounds like I'm married to a schoolgirl... OH come on, who hasn't fantasised about Britney in the 'Hit Me Baby' filmclip... ... ok perhaps I shared a little too much just there...) she's dead keen to get her vege patch in order... (another statement that cracks me up!). She really went crazy in the yard. After angle-grinding the rest of the shed down, something she felt rather proud of after... she spent the rest of the day lifting bricks and pavers out of the ground, ready for her new garden. That whole area just freaks me out... far too overgrown and uneven. It's like what the 'other' side of the back yard looked like before we started getting THAT together... 3 years ago. Hey if she's happy to get all that going, I'm more than happy to leave her to it. Meanwhile... I'm still over the other side of the house... working on my 'square'. Where the spa is going... the area that I spent ages removing a few cubic metres of dirt ready for our new lovely reward. Well today was the day I had to level off my square, screed it and ready it for the concrete taxi... which is coming in about 9 and a half hours time. Have you ever laid a concrete pad before? Spirit levels, edging trowels, screeds, planks to roll wheelbarrows up, builder's plastic to line the square to prevent rising moisture, reinforcement grid steel to strengthen the pad and prevent cracking... not to mention the fact that you're dealing with a cubic metre of wet cement that has a time frame all on its own. But the rewarding part is, it's one step closer to sitting in the 36 degree spa on a cold May evening (I say May, because I just KNOW that's when everything will get finished), sipping Wildwood Sparkling Dawn... my favourite bubbly. You know how tucked away in your head somewhere you've got a little list of things in life you just really want to achieve? Well I bought a house, I married the girl of my dreams, I've owned a Peugeot, (don't get me started!) and my album is so close to completion it's not even mildly amusing anymore. Down the list somewhere is an outdoor spa. It's certainly not VERY far down the list... in the top 10. Making your dreams an accessible reality is the reason for living; because certainly, if you're not making your own dreams and aspirations something attainable... you're just surviving.... not living. Sorry, that was my one little rant. I believe it though. You want something? Gear your life so that you're heading for it. Mint. ...and if you're really lucky, I might ask you over for funsies in my spa. Love Court.
