So I found out inadvertently that there is a strange bunker in my backyard. I was digging in my backyard right up against the back wall and hit something that I initially thought was a pipe of some sort. As I didn't want to damage anything I cleared some more dirt away from it... and it didn't seem to be round. A large rather decrepit steel plate was in the ground buried under the dirt. Absolutely unusual right? Right. My thoughts then turned to sewerage or a power box under the dirt, but seriously why would anyone put it there and then bury a ton of sand over the top? THIS piqued my curiosity. With the edge of the shovel I worked around the edge and found an 'inward' handle filled sand, once removed was barely budgable at all. It took me quite a while to pry it open... and I swear a little bit of poo came out. It was a dark dank bunker under there. Absolutely no light, and smelled like a mixture of wet dog and old car oil. Weird. I went and got the ladder all the while fooling myself into believing I might actually have balls large enough to attempt to enter said bunker... Needless to say after much leaning into the hole with a torch to look for dead bodies and stuff, I figured it was safe enough to lower the ladder into and stop being a girl. The bunker has a concrete floor and is only about 6 foot in height. it's about 6 metres long and only about 2 and a half metres wide. The end of the bunker seems to go onto next door's property... I doubt they know about this 'bomb shelter' either. There isn't much in there. But what there is is just as confusing as the room itself. A box of old scissor shear things, another box full of glass ball things with markings on them, and a bunch of what perhaps used to be newspapers... but were just a wet dark mass of paper. Nothing legible on there at all. I made a call to the council this arvo to see if they knew of the 'bunker' at all... it may be on a plan or something, but they seemed as perplexed as I am... they're going to send out a couple of dudes next week to check it out... Which maybe a shame, as it's exactly the place I want to put a concrete pad down for my new spa. Now I have to wait... and knowing my bloody luck, the bunker will be turned into a 'protected property'... and I won't be able to put my pad down anyway... I've got the worst luck. Mind you, it would be cool to have my very own bunker... somewhere to hang out when Jane wants me to do something... Whack a TV in there, PS3... beer fridge... now we're talking. Oh... Happy April Fools Day everybody. Love Court.
