Esperance!
Ok, so I might be a couple of days late on this one, but things got hectic over the last couple of days... that's why I'm just catching up now.
The drive from Albany to Esperance was a long one, but a nice one... beautiful time of year to be down south.
As we arrived in picturesque Esperance we had no time to be idly checking out the sights and sounds as we ploughed straight into setting up for the show that night. Saturday night in Esperance... can't go wrong right?
Our set up is quite intense with banners, lights, neon sign-posts, and a 3 camera projection unit so the audience can get a few close-ups along the way, so setting up takes a few hours.
But as with everywhere on our tour so far, we were looked after really well. After a dinner of oysters and (half a) carbonara, we barely had time to get back to our rooms to shower and change ready for the show... though we possibly could have had time after all...
At the Pier hotel (where we were playing) they have a nightclub licence which means they can stay open until 3 or 4 in the morning... it also means the locals don't feel the need to get there until around 12am. We went on just after 9, and finished at 12am. So our audience was exactly the same as the one I had in Esperance last time; a little light on.
Having said that, we had at least 50 people in there during our show who had all paid the cover charge and were really enjoying it. So, after the initial let-down of a mediocre number... I was superstoked to be playing to people who were into it. Makes a big difference.
After the show, we all stuck around and partied heartily into the wee hours at the night club. We'd made the decision a few days prior that it was Esperance that we'd let our hair down a bit in... little did I realise until I was jumping into bed at 5am that we had to be in Jerdacuttup the next day, playing on stage at 2pm.
Stay tuned for my Jerdacuttup blog tomorrow... you'll want to read it... it was beyond magical...
