Niece.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:37

This is going to be a quick one as it's ten to three in the morning and I have to be in Midland by 10:30am. It's St. Patrick's Day today, so our gig has been shifted to during the day... Easy, I'll have the night off thank you very much... I went over to my brother Chris' house today to help out with some tech issue; it often seems that's mainly the reason I go over... but what an excuse to see my niece Ella. My brother Kieran who has been having a few rough trots lately often visits our niece, and I can see why. She'll brighten anyone's day. She actually called me 'Courtney' today... well it was more like 'Court NEE'. But she got it, she just likes to flavour her words a little I guess. No harm in that. For so long I've been hanging out for when she starts talking more than her usual word 'Dunna'. Dunna is her word for everything she can't say. But now she's on the move, vocab style. What cracked me up considerably was when we were hanging out doing our thing, and she was milling around the front end of the house, when we heard her say 'Daddy... Man...' with an ever-so-slight sense of urgency in her voice... to which Chris thought she was saying he was a man. "Yes Ella, Daddy's a man". Her response was that of repetition this time with a slight more importance... She had actually seen a postal dude fast approaching the door with a package; she was letting her daddy know that there was a man at the door. Not bad for a 2 year old I reckon. Just mintox. I'm slowly but surely coming around to the idea of having a child. If it turns out like Ella, then why not say I? Love Court.

Revenge.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:37

Sweet. A caged man, crime in absentia. Every thought turns to it; revenge. Whether Karmic or violent, passive or eye-balled. Confrontational or a higher plane. What goes around, comes around... revenge will be had by simple balance of nature. That's passive revenge. Sorry to get all deep there, but I just thought I'd share a thought... a way to combat stupid violence, stupid decisions... a combat to a sheer lack of intellect. When someone does something wrong, they get punished for it; and when 12 people in power won't/can't/don't do it... it's in the hands of Karma. Karmic revenge. When someone does something wrong, we want righteousness. They've upset the apple cart. We need to put it right... but violence begets violence, and it's not the way; that's the way I was always brought up. I don't feel that there's ever a need for it. The natural balance to things will take care of righting wrongs. I'm not a religious man, but I firmly believe in the nature of things. The balance and kilter. Weave and groove. Love Court.

Shed in the Backyard.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:37

What an odd day. My mum and dad came to live with us while their house was being built, and, needing a place to store their furniture and stuff, built a bloody big shed in our back yard. I love that shed, even though it has become a haven for all the crap other parts of the family have left at our joint. So, that's our shed... right next to it however is the original little garden shed that the previous owners once revelled in and enjoyed.... ... back in 1974. It's now done its dash. It's pretty much gone the way of my 'ex-peugeot'. It's time for it to come for it to come down... as Janey wants to use her term break holidays building a vege garden... and it's my job to keep Janey happy. The trick to any job like that is... don't stand there looking at it saying "I have no idea where to start"... just start doing stuff, before you know it... you'll have accomplished heaps. I started by opening the door and nearly crying at the amount of crap in there. I'm talking 5 bikes, two saws, buckets of soil, two doors, 3 trestles, a piece of super 6 (I'll come back to THAT one later), lots of garden liquid products, a remote controlled car long expired, a lawn mower, a box that a 'blower' came in, and around 4000 spiders. Once I'd removed about 90% of that, I was moving onto the 'super 6'. As I shifted it out from leaning up against the wall... this DIRTY GREAT BIG BLOODY RAT came a-bounding out and scooted out a hole in the backside of the shed. Awesome. I don't get scared of rats. I think they're cool. On other people's property. This thing isn't welcome... and he was so bloody huge... I'm pretty sure he ducked his head when he went through the hole... and (and you have to put on your best Michael Clarke Duncan voice from Green Mile) he said something like... 'I'm outta here man'. Ok so the rat is now out of sight out of mind; and I got to work on drilling out the pop rivets holding the tin to the chassis of the shed. Yep, it has a big rusty steel chassis. Fun. Then 5 o'clock happened and I had to go and shower and doll up ready for my burswood gig. I'll keep at it tomorrow. Jane will get her Vege patch, but not before I've become a man whilst tearing down a shed... WOOAARGH!!! I might hire someone to do the rest. Love Court.

She's Not One Of Those Girls.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:37

It's a track on my new album, and its lead vocal is eluding me. It's my white elephant. One more lead vocal to put down on my album, and this is the track. I wrote it in a different key, but Don (producer) wanted to push my vocals a bit more, so I raised it a third. Full on. I'll get it, it's just doing my head in... it's the LAST of the lead vocals. Everything else is done. Once I've got it, I only then have to record the harmonies and we're done. Ready to go. Onto the release and touring. I just wish it was now... it's taken far too long just to get to this point... Anyway, I thought you'd like to know what's been playing on my mind. I hope when the album comes out, you get it. You get the work, you get the songs, you get the effort. It's called 'Big'... and it reflects everything about the album... and me. Love Court.

Drunk.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:36

Hey. he he... that's an interesting way of starting a blog. Hey. Like I know whoever is reading this. So I'm drunk, what of it? I was at our sound guy (HA HA HA it's taken me so long just to write this much!) Kane's Buck's night, and then went to Kieran's place afters, and haven't really stopped drinking. I've had a big night to say the least... and I have to go Dunsborough tomorrow for a wedding. Playing a wedding hungover, I've done it before, and it never gets easier. I figured I should post a blog tonight, but I doubt I'll be proud of it tomorrow. Mind you, I'll be cursing the sun and the light and heat coming from it tomorrow too, let alone some pissy blog. Kane Pountney, our sound guy is a hero. I love the man; and he put up with so much tonight. Poor little fellow. Not only did he have to dress up in a 'onesie' short skirt and tight top thing, but he had a red ribbon put in his hair by one of the topless barmaids. Hilarity. Then, when the 'show' took place he was subjected to all sorts of things, that I shan't (is shan't a word?) mention is case it incriminates him. Needless to say... he's more of a man than I. You know that feeling you have, when you're drunk, yet you're home and have no purpose to be drunk... so you just have to wait the drunk thing out, so then you go to bed? Yeah... well that's me now. I went scouting for locations for an album cover photo shoot today. Found a couple of places that I'm interested in, but I don't think Shauny is blown away. I've got a very specific idea of what the album cover has to look like, and trying to explain it to your manager is always a tough thing to do. I found a delapidated room (try typing THAT when you're drunk!) in a boarding house in Midland, that I think will be perfect for what I have in mind. Hopefully I can convince to powers the be enough so we can shoot there. Awesome... the room is so old, it was built in 1879. How cool is that? Well, I'm going into my back room to chill out in my LA-Z-Boy and watch some tube. Have to wear some of this headspin off. Maybe I'll have a snack. You don't need to know about that... Be cool kids. Hope your Friday night was as lovely as mine. Love Court.

Great Public Holiday.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:36

Today was a public holiday. It's unique to WA on this date. Labour day in every other state is on another day. The closest is Tasmania and Victoria who have it on the second Monday of March, though Tassie calls it '8 hours day'. Interesting huh? It doesn't mean much to the majority of us, usually it's just a great time to catch up with friends, and have bbq's and stuff. That's what I did today. Well, yesterday now as it's nearly 2 in the morning. Jane and I went to Jason & Kat's house (Jase is the guitarist in Murphy's Lore) and had a rip-roaring BBQ. After much merriment, Jane and I and Kane and Viv (Kane is ML's premier sound man) went back to our house for much Family Guy watching and a little Blu-ray action... you know how proud I am of THAT! It's been such a great day... I'm such a lucky boy sometimes. I'm going to keep the momentum of good spirits going through the week. This is my goal. I hope everyone had a good Labour Day. ...and for the rest of the Country, chill babies... you'll get yours. Love Court.

People Who Win Stuff.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:36

There's a lot of people out there, that tend to have what I call 'games' luck. They win stuff, a lot. My Uncle Mark's side of the family... win cars and lotto and stuff. I never win stuff... and I think it's because I'm all topped up in 'life' luck. I tend to call it Karma though, do good stuff... and the bad stuff gravitates away from you. Some people might even call that religion. I don't. Life luck is placing 3rd on a national TV show, games luck is walking out of the casino $200 lighter. I swear I even get my kid-sister-in-law to buy my scratchies for me. You want to win 9 times out of 10? Get Kate Price to buy 'em for you. She's got the games luck thing sewn up. As everyone would, I want to win something substantial. The lotto... of course... who doesn't. But failing that, maybe like one of those wonderful cars that are in ALL of those raffle tickets that I buy. I swear Rocky Bay Institute are funded by me and all the rest of the Life Luckers out there. There's some dude sitting in his mansion in Queensland, with his two BMW's saying 'What? I won again?'. A trip. That would be mint. I'd like to win a big trip first class to America. New York in Winter, or Milan at any time, or Mauritius in Spring. Gosh... I'm yet to check my lotto ticket from last night. he he, if i win, I'm going to seem like the biggest dick ever. Love Court.

Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:36

Hey everyone, I'm doing a gig this Sunday at 6:30pm - 8pm, down at the Subiaco arts centre. Hammersley road. Bring a picnic, and your family... we're going to have a grand ol' time. Also, if you're interested, I pre-recorded an interview for radio tomorrow, on ABC. Should be fun, I even performed an acoustic version of 'Rocks In Your Head'... so if you're up at 6:30am, please tune in and have a listen. And then, come on Sunday. You rock y'all. Love Court.
