Tuesday Nights with Chris
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:33

For a while now I've been doing these crazy little Tuesday night gigs with my Brother Chris. We started doing it in Winter last year at The Guildford Hotel, and it was a ridiculous amount of fun. One of those nights where, I start and do the first set by myself, then Chris takes the second, and then finally I join him and we do the third set together. The Guildford was a really cruisy affair until Sunday the 31st of August... the grand Guildford Hotel blazed away into the night leaving Guildford shy of one of its most treasured historical buildings. When we heard first thing Monday morning, quick smart we tried to find another gig so we could carry on having as much fun on our Tuesdays. 7th Avenue in Midland was to be our new venue. A family owned pub with quite a kick arse restaurant attached. It's where I'm headed in about 15 minutes when I've finished this blog... for another exciting Chris & Court adventure. Playing with Chris reminds me of the younger days of Murphy's Lore. Me being the guy behind the keyboard next to Chris... a tour de force of wit, talent and passion... it makes playing so easy... and a lovely mix of crazy and straight. Here's where I do the pimp bit. If you don't have anything else on your Tuesday night. Please come and poke your head in for a while. I recommend the ribs. Love Court.

Australia Day '09
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:32

Happy Australia Day everyone. As I don't have any plans this Australia day, no gigs, no backyard parties, no wife to hang with... I've been thinking about exactly what 'Australia Day' means to me. I know what it should mean to ALL of us, but singularly... I immediately think of the 70's, before I was born, and the life my parents had at the same age I am now. The Aussie cars, the 'drive-in' culture of movie making... the energy that transcends through to today. Mr. Whippy, BBQs, Beer, Hill's Hoist, FJ, Kangaroos, Paul Hogan, Mrs. Macs, Boardies... I remember 4 years ago, when I was in Canberra on this day... everything still seeming surreal... walking out onto a stage that had millions of eyes tuned in as well as the 40,000 in attendance at the steps of an odd looking building... and singing with my friends all about Australia. I get really choked up when I think about the magic I was a part of that night. The cricket is on, it's the 4th against Sth Africa, we lose this one, we lose the series. We win the next two, we win the series. 'Show Greats' is putting 5 'Ozploitation' movies on as well... so with no social plans... the tv is my date today. If you don't know what I'm referring to when I say 'Ozploitation'... next time you're at the video store, hire out a new release called 'Not Quite Hollywood'. I just can't understand why no one has seen this. Everyone should have been made to watch it this Australia Day. I hope everyone will correct everyone else today when they pronounce it 'Ostraya'. Let's not all be TOO bogan today ok? he he... Love Court.

My first Blog.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 08:58

Hi everybody and welcome to my official website. It's taken a while, but finally we're off and rolling, and hopefully I'll be writing on here more than I'll be singing in the shower... ... so that's a lot then. My beautiful friend and tech-mentor Daniel Lattimer has built my little site here, and will hopefully be helping me out to jazz it up somewhat as we get moving toward the release of my album. As we get new songs and demos and things, this will be the place to listen to them. I thought while I'm on here I might write a decent first blog, even though I'm currently missing the 3rd one dayer against Sth Africa to do so... oh the things I do... he he. An update on the album is that we're back on board. After a decent sabbatical over the festive season, we got a nice big session done last Monday, and then of course my producer Mark Donahoe then nicked off to Tamworth to do his jiggity jig over there. Thanks Don. When he returns though, we'll be cranking out the last bits of vocals (harmonies and two more leads) and then perhaps just trying a last minute couple of ideas to spruce a couple of the tracks... There may or may not be a Vibraphone involved. Speaking of which, for those of you who don't know, My album entitled 'Big' has been a culmination of work over a two year period now, mainly because as an 'independent' artist the money hasn't always been there to record at the standard I want of my album. Unlike many artists and albums out there, we've shyed away from using any samples or loops or basically any synthesized intruments whatsoever. When you hear something on this album, you'll know it's the real deal. Cellos, Violins, Violas, Trumpets, Saxophones, Trombones, Wurlitzers, Grand Pianos... it's all there. No wonder I called it 'Big' (oh and don't think I don't 'get' the other pertinent use of the word 'Big' either!). So I'm super stoked we've got this blog thingy up and cranking... Now we just have to get people to read it. See you tomorrow. Love Court.

A Watched Pot Actually Does Boil
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 07:48

Everyone... I need to tell you about a little album by my friend Bleu. The album is called 'A Watched Pot' and it was released a couple of weeks ago. Don't stress if you haven't seen it in the stores, it hasn't had an Australian release. I'll tell you where you can buy it at the end of this blog. Right now however I have to tell you WHY you are going to buy it. It is quite possibly the finest album I've heard in the last year. Every song is a possible single. You may have seen that I embedded the filmclip to his first single 'Come & Go' on here, if you haven't seen that, go into the archive and have a squizz... it's worth it. From the get-go the album has a sense of purpose and shape... a weird kinda confidence that is instilled in Bleu

Dinner Favourites.
Courtney Murphy Sunday, 13 September 2009 07:47

Hey. This is another one of those random blogs about nothing in particular. Nothing in particular is wrong; it's about one of my favourite things in the whole world to do... apart from sex of course. Going out to dinner or eating dinner with other people. I guess it's no surprise to anyone that I'm a dan of food. But not just food... fine food. Fine beverage to wash said fine food down.
